Oratorical Contest

The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

National Merit Scholarship Program

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

This scholarship is intended to assist students affected by mesothelioma. Applicants might have seen a loved one fight mesothelioma, lost a loved one to mesothelioma, battled mesothelioma themselves, or otherwise been affected by mesothelioma. Levinson and Stefani Perseverance Award

Every year, we handle dozens of cases involving young people. In many instances, their lives have been irrevocably changed by the effects of a crash. Army ROTC Scholarships

Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and overall grade point average. Army ROTC scholarships are not awarded based on a student’s financial needs. This scholarship is offered through Georgia Tech, and is available to students who are dual-enrolled at Georgia Tech and Emory.

Ty Cobb Educational Foundation

The Foundation was established by the late Tyrus R. Cobb for the purpose of assisting capable and deserving residents of Georgia who need financial assistance in completing their college education. Foundation scholarships are granted to qualified students for the purpose of attending an accredited college or university full time.  The college or university must be accredited by a regional crediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education.

Scholarship Amount: $3,000

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have lived in Georgia for two years prior to applying for the scholarship.
  • Applicant must have 30 semester hours with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Max McElhaney Memorial Educational Scholarship

Sponsored by the Rocky McElhaney Law Firm, the Max McElhaney Memorial Educational Scholarship has been established to honor the life and love of Rocky’s Uncle Max. The inaugural recipient was selected in May 2015 for the fall 2015 semester, and yearly recipients will be chosen each August thereafter. The scholarship will be paid on the first Monday in September following the season opener football game of the University of Tennessee, in accordance with Uncle Max’s wishes.

Graduate Students

 

Some of the best scholarships and fellowships are only available at the graduate level. Graduate students in any school at Emory should check this list periodically.

The American Evaluation Association welcomes applications for its Graduate Education Diversity Internship Program that provides paid internship and training opportunities during the academic year. The GEDI program works to engage and support students from groups traditionally under-represented in the field of evaluation.

Scholarship Amount: $8,000

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed a year of graduate level coursework.
  • Applicant will work two days a week and attend conferences as part of the internship.
  • Applicant must not be already enrolled in an evaluation program/specialization/degree.

DAAD Grants for Study and Research

This specialized DAAD program offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (one to two months) in Germany. The program is designed to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an inter- and multidisciplinary perspective.

  • Applicant must have completed two years of German and three courses in German studies.

The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Disease Nursing Scholarship Fund

The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Disease Nursing Scholarship was established to assist registered nurses with advanced preparation for positions in supervision, administration or teaching. Students must have employment prospects in specific positions in hospitals, clinics or health departments upon completion of their education, and the position must have a full-time and direct relationship to pediatric lung and respiratory control.

Scholarship Amount: $6,000

  • Applicant must attend an accredited school of nursing or respiratory therapist program
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0.

Fulbright Program Grants

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs.  A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.

The Hayek Fund for Scholars awards grants of up to $750 to PhD students currently enrolled full-time in graduate school and junior, non-tenure track scholars advancing the principles of personal liberty and economic freedom through an academic career.

Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowship

The Graduate Fellowship Award is based on merit (not need) and consists of a cost-of-education allowance and a personal-support stipend. The cost-of-education allowance is accepted by all of the participating schools in lieu of all fees and tuition. Hertz Fellows therefore have no liability for any ordinary educational costs, regardless of their choice among participating schools.

  • Applicant must be studying physical or biological science, mathematics or engineering.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or master's degrees in business management.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000-$7,000

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a woman pursuing an accredited business or business-related program.

National Association of Black Journalists Scholarship

NABJ awards scholarships annually to deserving students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. Scholarships are worth up to $2,500.  All applications must be submitted online by the specified deadline.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a current NABJ member.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a major in journalism or a related field, and a journalism career.

National Physical Science Consortium

NPSC welcomes applications from any qualified U.S. citizen who has the ability to pursue graduate work at an NPSC member institution. Applicants at any stage of their graduate program may apply, as long as they will be available to accept two summers of paid internship. Those who already possess a doctoral degree are ineligible.

Scholarship Amount: $20,000

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be willing to work at a paid internship for two summers.
  • Applicant must be studying in a STEM field.
  • Applicant must have an employer sponsor them for the fellowship.

Rotary World Peace Fellowship

Each year, Rotary selects individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of our peace centers. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship/field study expenses. Two types of peace fellowships are available.

Scholarship Amount: Full

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must speak English and ideally at least one other language proficiently.
  • Applicant must have 3-5 years of related full-time work or volunteer experience.
  • Applicant must be pursuing either a master’s degree or a professional development certificate related to peace and security.

Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship

Since 1995, SHAPE America has awarded scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate student members. The Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship, developed by the past presidents of SHAPE America to honor deserving students, is awarded to three undergraduate students and two graduate students in January of each year. All scholarships are presented at the SHAPE America National Convention & Exposition held in the spring.

Scholarship Amount: $1,750

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a member of SHAPE.
  • Applicant must major in the field of health, physical education, recreation or dance.
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5.

SWE Scholarships

SWE Scholarships support women pursuing ABET-accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science in the United States and Mexico. In 2014, SWE disbursed over 230 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $700,000.

Mars Translation Scholarship

Mars Translation is devoted to develop a new brigade of youth adept in international communication and cultural studies. Pursuing our aim, we feel pleased to be supporting the next generation of international communication masters who will hold the power to play well in the complex landscape of international communication and culturally diversified world. This scholarship will provide financial aid to all the competitive students who yearn to pursue their career and educational growth in this field.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have work experience of at least 6 months with an international brand or organization.
