Student Employee of the Year
Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) is a national competition, sponsored by the National Student Employment Association, which begins at the campus level. Supervisors are invited to nominate outstanding student employees. A student is selected from the pool of nominees to receive the honor of being Emory University’s Student Employee of the Year!
Undergraduate students employed on-campus, and graduate students who are on student employee payroll and who are performing student employee jobs are eligible. This does not include: Resident Advisors, Graduate Assistants, or Teaching Assistants. Students must have been employed for a minimum of three months full-time or six months part-time between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018 (anticipated).
Selection CriteriaStudents will be evaluated by a campus team of judges on the following qualities:
- Quality of Work
- Uniqueness of Contribution
Please complete the SEOTY nomination form by clicking here. Separately, attach a Nomination Letter describing the accomplishments of the nominee that you feel qualify him/her to be considered for Student Employee of the year. The campus nomination deadline is February 16th, and must be sent to Whitney Tucker-Jenkins. Make the letter and nomination form as comprehensive as possible in order to give your nominee the best chance to win.
The campus winner will be chosen by the selection committee during February. The Student Employment Center will submit the campus winner's name to compete at the regional level in March. A regional winner is then submitted to the national competition. The national winner is then selected and given the award during National Student Employment Week (April).

The Emory University Student Employee of the year will be presented an award at the University Leadership, Service, and Diversity Awards, announced in the Emory Wheel during National Student Employee week, and will also be featured on the Office of Financial Aid website. The winner will also be awarded a $1,000 scholarship (sponsored by the Office of Financial Aid).
National Student Employment Week
Every year, the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) declares the second full week in April to be National Student Employment Week. For 2018, Emory University will join in this national celebration the week of April 8-14, 2018.
Student employees are an integral part of the Emory Community and bring exceptional talents to our work environments. Without part-time student employees many departments would find it difficult to meet mission critical goals. Part-time campus opportunities provide many students with funding for college expenses, reducing possible debt burdens so common with college graduates today. Student employment offers students career-enhancing opportunities, the ability to develop skills relevant in any career, and better preparation for the job market upon graduation. In addition, through the Federal Work-Study Program several local non-profit and government agencies hire Emory students to work in community service positions for their organizations.
National Student Employment Week is a perfect time to recognize the contributions our student employees make throughout the year. Student Employee Supervisors and co-workers are encouraged to celebrate this week and take a few moments to recognize the work of student employees.
