Apply for Financial Aid in Three Steps
1. Complete the FAFSA
First, you need to complete the FAFSA, so you will be considered for all forms of federally funded grants, low-interest-rate loans, and work-study assistance. Make sure you pay attention to deadlines.
2. Complete the CSS Profile
Emory requires you to complete the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA, if you would like to be considered for Emory-funded, need-based grant programs. The Profile allows for a more thorough review of your family’s financial standing and also provides for income allowances that are not considered for federal programs.
3. Submit Tax Forms
Custodial Parents
Upload or mail to College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) copies of the custodial parents’ signed 2018 federal tax forms, including W2s, 1099s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS.
Student
Upload or mail to College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) copies of the student’s signed 2018 federal tax forms, including W2s, 1099s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS. If you were not required to file a tax return, please complete the Emory Non-Tax Filer Form.
Non-Custodial Parents
If your biological or adoptive parents are divorced, separated, or never married, upload or mail to College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) copies of the non-custodial parents’ signed 2018 federal tax forms, including W2s, 1099s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS.
How to Submit Foreign Tax Documents
Foreign tax returns or foreign country equivalent are required of non-US residents. Provide a signed copy of the foreign taxes, translated to English and converted to USD, and include the currency conversion rate used. Once the CSS Profile is completed with this information, please upload or mail the foreign tax returns or foreign country equivalent to the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC).
Financial Aid Award Notification
Your award notification will be sent to your email address marked as preferred within OPUS approximately 48 hours following the admission decision release if all documentation has been submitted on time. After the financial aid process, Student Financial Services is responsible for the management of all business related to the student financial account including the billing and collection of all student charges, issuances of refund balances, and more.
