Student Employee of the Year

Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) is a national competition sponsored by the National Student Employment Association, which begins at the campus level. Supervisors are invited to nominate outstanding student employees, and a student is selected from the pool of nominees to receive the honor of being Emory University’s Student Employee of the Year.

Student employees are an integral part of the Emory Community and bring exceptional talents to our work environments. Without part-time student employees many departments would find it difficult to meet mission critical goals. Part-time campus opportunities provide many students with funding for college expenses, reducing possible debt burdens so common with college graduates today. Student employment offers students career-enhancing opportunities, the ability to develop skills relevant in any career, and better preparation for the job market upon graduation.

Nomination Information

Eligibility Requirements

Undergraduate students employed on campus who are on student employee payroll and who are performing student employee jobs are eligible. This does not include: resident advisers, graduate assistants, or teaching assistants. 

Selection Criteria

Students will be evaluated by a campus team of judges on the following National Association of Colleges and Employment (NACE) competencies for a career-ready workforce:

  •  Professionalism
  •  Technology

Nomination Materials

  • Submit the nomination form

     

  • Review the NACE Competencies

  • Send a nomination letter describing the accomplishments of the nominee that you feel qualify them to be considered for Student Employee of the Year to Whitney Tucker-Jenkins and include the subject line: SEOTY.

  • Meet the campus nomination deadline of Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 8:00 am.

Selection Process

The campus winner will be chosen by the selection committee during February. The Student Employment Center will submit the campus winner's name to compete at the regional level in March. A regional winner is then submitted to the national competition. The national winner is then selected and given the award during National Student Employment Week in April.

The Emory University Student Employee of the year will be featured on the Office of Financial Aid website, receive a SEOTY certificate, and be awarded a $1,000 scholarship (sponsored by the Office of Financial Aid).

National Student Employment Week

Every year, the National Student Employment Association declares the second full week in April to be National Student Employment Week. For 2022, Emory University will join in this national celebration the week of April 10–16, 2022. This week is a perfect time to recognize the contributions our student employees make throughout the year. Student employee supervisors and co-workers are encouraged to celebrate this week and take a few moments to recognize the work of student employees.
