Application Information for Returning Students

All you need to do to renew your financial aid application materials after your first year is to renew your FAFSA form. You are able to renew your FAFSA form beginning on October 2026. The FAFSA is required to determine eligibility for federal and state student aid.

You will have fewer questions to answer for 2027-2028 because the FAFSA form will already contain some of the information you gave on the 2026-2027 FAFSA. Updates will be needed only for the information that has changed from the prior year.

To transfer data and electronically sign your FAFSA application, register for a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. The Department of Education will process your application in three to five days, provided you (and any contributors, if applicable) have provided electronic signatures using your FSA ID.

In December 2026, all renewal eligible FAFSA applicants will receive 2027-2028 Renewal FAFSA reminder notices from the Department of Education:

• Students with a valid email address will receive email reminders.
• Students without a valid email address will receive reminder letters.

If you are a returning student and did not file a 2026-2027 FAFSA, you will not receive a reminder notice. You must submit the 2027-2028 FAFSA to be considered for financial aid.
